The challenge

Somerset Bridge Group operated with different systems for data interrogation and analysis across their business functions. With no shared business logic and varying data sources for the same topics, cross-functional projects like reinsurance renewals or policy risk rating reviews produced conflicting information. Decision makers struggled to determine the true picture due to these inconsistencies.

The group needed to establish a single source of truth that would deliver consistent answers to the same questions, regardless of which department was responding.

The solution

Somerset Bridge Group partnered with Ometis to implement Qlik's modern data analytics system across their business. The solution included:

  1. Connecting multiple data sources across all three business functions using Qlik's ETL capabilities
  2. Creating a layer of business-ready transformed data using QVD storage format, which reduced the query load on key systems
  3. Implementing automated scheduling to maintain fresh data around the clock
  4. Providing self-service dashboards with a user-friendly interface, powered by Qlik's associative engine
  5. Integrating with existing user rights management to ensure proper data security
  6. Setting up customisable automated alerts
  7. Training management information staff across departments to support ongoing development of automated reporting

The results

The new system quickly showed its value, with call management dashboards deployed across all functions within weeks. These dashboards revealed previously unseen patterns in call volumes and dropped calls, allowing the group to adjust staffing rotas and improve service to policyholders and prospective customers.

Within a year, the Claims function retired their previous data analytics software, reducing infrastructure maintenance costs.
