Qlik NPrinting June 2019 is out alongside the Qlik Sense June 2019 Release so Chris Lofthouse has taken a look. Here’s everything Qlik NPrinting users need to know.
June’s release of NPrinting is out and it’s small but mighty; containing a couple improvements and one new feature. Let’s take a look, starting with the improvements.
Kicking off this release we have the ability to run and abort user import tasks using Qlik NPrinting public APIs – handy for those looking to extend Qlik NPrinting.
It is also now possible to design report templates using Microsoft Office 2019 Click-to-Run with Qlik NPrinting Designer.
Now, let’s focus on the meaty new feature.
This allows NPrinting users to filter on a field using the same syntax for performing advanced searches within a local field of QlikView and Qlik Sense. Selecting a set of values in a field, using advanced search, can be achieved by using:
All values that match the text exactly are selected.
Example:
*, ? and ^ can be used as wildcards in a text search:
· Use the asterisk ‘*’ as a placeholder for 0 or more undefined characters.
· Use the question mark ‘?’ as a placeholder for one undefined single character.
Example:
Tip: to prevent mid-string results, it is recommend using ‘^’. For example, *^Text goes here*.
If a search starts with < or > it will be evaluated as a numeric search.
Example:
Below I’m searching for all sales greater than 100,000 and less than 200000.
You can also use greater than or equal to ‘>=’ and less than or equal to ‘<=’.
If a search starts with an = it will be evaluated as an expression search. The result of the expression is interpreted as a Boolean; 0 is false and any other value is true.
Example:
Above, I’ve filtered on the postal code field for all values that have an average sales price that is greater than or equal to 1,000,000.
It’s this last type of advanced search that is the most powerful, it’s truly a great addition that will be useful for all NPrinting users.
It’s worth noting that if you have applied previous filters, the advanced search filter will be intersected with the results of them. To avoid this, you can use set analysis to ignore the selection state etc.
Qlik NPrinting is an important component of the Qlik platform and although Qlik NPrinting June 2019 is a small release, at least they occur frequently, every 10 weeks. I personally look forward to seeing it continue its development in the future and reach the full potential it is capable of. Once we have feature parity with its predecessor, NPrinting 16, I’m sure we will see some real innovation fill this space.
